Edith Tankusco-Founder | Artistic co-Director
Edith Tankus is an alumnus of L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq and L'Ecole Philippe Gaulier. She is an award-winning actress and clown who has toured North America garnering rave reviews with her solo shows, Not Yet, At All and Hurricane Gerty. She has collaborated and performed with award-winning artists abroad and international touring theatre companies.
Her two shows are performed regularly in theatre festivals, as part of seasons and within schools throughout Canada. Her creations are usually clown based with a brilliant blend of humorous storytelling, vaudeville, physical comedy, aerial work and audience engagement.
Edith has worked as Artist in Residence in theatres across Canada where she has performed and led workshops in clown and physical theatre. She has also taught in numerous elementary and high schools as part of the Artist in Education Program of the Ontario Arts Council.
Her collaborations have lead her to work with internationally acclaimed Kneehigh Theatre of Cornwall, England. She starred in their adaptation of Rapunzel which performed in London, toured the U.K., and had it’s Broadway run in New York.
She has also worked with award-winning, vaudevillian and theatre artist Tomas Kubinek. Their last collaboration resulted in the Gemini-nominated feature film Tucked into Bedlam based on his stage play Bed, which premiered on CBC's Opening Night.
She co-wrote and directed Susanna Hamnett’s one-woman adaptation of King Lear entitled Nearly Lear which had it’s premier run at the Winchester Theatre and is now performing in schools and theatres across Canada.
Edith has performed for and is part of an International Arts Organization, “Circus Remedy”, whose outreach mandate is to bring acclaimed theatre and circus artists to perform their shows in hospitals, camps, and poverty stricken communities throughout the world.
She is Artistic co-Director of Sparrow in the Room Collective with co-Founders Robert Morgan and Anahita Azrahimi.
